SMCC Sportive & Photos 2018
Sunday 8th April 2018 saw us at the SMCC Charity Sportive. Charities supported by this year’s event are Tourette’s Alliance and Lisburn2gether Special Olympics. The event this year saw some 150 entrants take part.
It was an early start this morning at 7am to travel to Lisburn and get setup for 8:30am at the Lisburn Leisureplex. We had the marquee, workshop stand and flags set up and ready to go for 9am. With the first riders due off at 9:30am we knew 9-9:30am would be the busiest time and sure enough it was. We did a number of small jobs;
-
-Set gears for a number of people
-
-Fix a headset which was over tightened
-
-Set cones on rear wheel
-
-Set tyre pressures
The 80 mile riders then headed off at 9:30am making their way down the road with the 40 mile group 5 minutes behind.
On our way to Moira Demesne for the lunch stop we got a call to head back towards Lisburn. A rider had a broken chain so went back to them with our chain breaker tool to get them back on their way.
We got to Moira for 10:30am and setup the stall again. Then it was time for a sandwich and a drink thanks to the guys at SMCC.
Just as we had the last bun (which was delicious) the first of the riders from the 40mile group got to Moira at 10:50am.
When at the Moira lunch stop we had another run of small jobs to do which included;
-
-Changing an 700 x 23c 80mm tube
-
-Changing a standard 700c road bike tube
-
-Truing a buckled wheel which turned out to be cracked rim from hitting a large pot hole
-
-Set gears on a number of bikes
-
-Pumping up some tyres to 100psi for a few guys who got a puncture on the way round
Once all the riders had left the lunch stop that was our job done for the day and we made our way home.
Thanks again to the SMCC for including us in the event. We hope to do the same again for you in the future.
